Monday 1st September

From 10.00am to 8.00pm the University of Cape Town presents South Africa’s Democracy-Mandela ‘Cherished Ideal’ in the Atrium Gallery, Old Building, LSE, Clare Market, WC2A 2AA. This exhibition brings together photographs. Documents and artefacts illustrating South Africa’s journey to democracy, 20 years after democratic elections and 50 years after the Rivonia trial. This FREE exhibition runs till 26th September.

At 7.00pm The I Will Tell Festival screens the Hope Trilogy at The Venue, Pimlico Academy, Lupus Street, SW1V 3AT. This trilogy consists of Mountains Will Move (Tanzania), The Other Dreamers (South Africa) and Beyond Forgiving (South Africa). Followed by a post screening discussion, this is a FREE event although donations are kindly appreciated.

At 7.00pm the South African Film Festival Wood Green screens Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom at the Vue Cinema Wood Green, Hollywood Green, 180 High Road, N22 6EJ. This programme of documentary screenings themed Celebrating 20 years of Freedom and Democracy through Film will be screening Justin Chatwick’s Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom starring Idris Elba. The screening will be followed by a Q & A. Tickets are £5.00 from here.

Wednesday 3rd September

At 6.00pm Premae Skincare presents Wonder Woman Wednesdays at Premae Skincare, Whiteleys Shopping Centre, Queensway, W2 44YN. This event will feature a complimentary glass of champagne, networking, raffle, goody bags and guest speaker Natalie Clue (Beauty Pulse London) who will share her inspirational story and beauty tips, followed by a Q&A session led by Clare Eluka (Premae Skincare) and Akua Gyamfi (Brit Black List). At 7.00pm the I Will Tell Film Festival screens Camarada Presidente at The Venue at Pimlico Academy. This documentary by Mosco Kamwendo charts the life of Samora Machel former Mozambican President from his life in his village to the struggle for independence from Portugal through to their eventual victory using archive footage and interviews. This is a FREE event but donation are kindly requested here. 

Thursday 4th September

From 3.00pm to 6.00pm is The 2014 MASK Prize Exhibition at The Education Gallery, The Saatchi Gallery, Duke of Yorks HQ, Kings Road, SW3 4RY. This East African creativity competition for schools and young people will display works created by young people up to the age of 25 from Africa and the diaspora. This is a FREE event.

At 6.30pm the how to Academy presents how to: Invest in Africa at the Conde Nast College of Fashion and Design, 16-17 Greek Street, Soho, W1D 4DR. This seminar will provide investment advice on the African market from 3 industry experts Algy Cluff (Cluff Natural Resources plc), Aita Ighodaro (Idaro) emerging and frontier market specialists, Charles Robertson (Renaissance Capital). At 6.30pm is the Ifa Lethu UK Invest in South Africa Investment Dinner at The Lord Mayors Residence, Mansion House Walbrook, EC4N 8BH. Ifa Lethu is a not for profit focussed on youth economic development based in Pretoria South Africa and will be hosting a gala dinner featuring legendary jazz South African musician Hugh Masekela and Larry Willis (USA). At 8.15pm Dogwoof presents Finding Fela Preview Screening at the BFI South Bank, Belvedere Road, South Bank, SE1 8XT, this documentary by Alex Gibney explores the legendary Afrobeat masters life, music, politics and travails starting backwards from the recent Broadway musical. Friday 5th September

From 9.00am to 5.30pm Chatham House presents Africa Sovereign Wealth Funds: Demand, Development and Delivery at Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House, 10 St James Square, Piccadilly, SW1Y 4LE. Chaired by Alok Sharma MP (APPG Sovereign Wealth Funds) and Jonathan Rosenthal (The Economist) this conference will consider how Sovereign Wealth Funds can develop strategies to ensure their performance as accountable financial tools of national economies. At 8.00pm Rwandan Community in London presents Amahoro- Peace:Hope at Rich Mix, 35-47 Bethnal Green Road, Shoreditch, E1 6LA. This event will feature Rwandan artists and guest artists; Jean-Paul Samputu, Namvulu, Mr Gee and guest speakers Ben Harrington, celebrating Rwandan culture and promoting a message of peace and hope. At 8.30pm is Lovers and Friends- The Comedy Special at Rise, 1 Leicester Square, WC2H 7NA. This night of alternative entertainment hosted by Will-E Robo brings together comedians Kane Brown, Shabba da Comedian, Russell Hicks, A Dot Comedian and Travis Jay. Saturday 6th September

From 12.00pm to 6.00pm the Ethiopian Association of Students and Youth in the UK presents a Screening of ‘Sincerely, Ethiopia’ at London South Bank University, 90 London Road, SE1 6LN. This new documentary tells the story of Ethiopians at home and abroad, away from the usual narrative if poverty and famine. Followed by debate and discussion tickets are £5.00 from here

From 12.00pm to 8.00pm UK Black Links presents UK Black Links Business Expo at Central Hall Westminster, Storeys Gate, Westminster, SW1H 9NH. Guest speakers will include Alistair Soyode (BEN TV), Beverley DeGale (ACLT), Dr Raoul Forbes, Julian Hall (Entrepreneur), Kieza S. At 7.00pm is Ghetto Lounge Autumn Special at Passing Clouds, 1 Richmond Road, Dalston, E8 4AA. Featuring Alfa Sackey and Afrik Bawantu live performing and releasing their new single ‘Life on thhe Street/ Mofeemo Ke Eno’, Abdul Tee-Jay and Koichhi akai and Clapper Priest n the decks. Sunday 7th September

From 11.30pm to 5.00pm is The Middle East, Africa and Beyond: The Forgotten Theatres of War at The Brunei Gallery Lecture Theatre, SOAS Thornhaugh Street, Russell Square, WC1H 0XG. The event will consist of  talks The Forgotten Theatres of War with Amandeep Mada (UKPHA Chair), The Sikhs at Gallipoli with Professor Peter Stanley University of New South Wales) and Indian Prisoners of War Experiences in the Ottoman Empire with Vedica Kant (Independent Researcher). At 3.00pm the British Urban Film Festival screens Eva’s Diamond at the Genesis Cinema, 93-95 Mile End Road, Whitechapel, E1 4UJ. Directed by Ice Neal, the film is about a religious teenager accused of murdering an occult expert, imprisoned for this crime he is forced to take matters into his own hands to prove his innocence. Followed by a panel discussion anchored by Jacqueline Shepherd, with panellists Ice Neal, Cody Spinks, Daniel Simpson and Eddie Usher. Tickets are £12.00 from here.
