Week of 25th August: Iyanya and TripleMG, Dele Sosimi Arobeat Orchestra, Jally Kebba Susso, Poetry Meets Art 11, Ayetoro,

We’ve been away for a while tied up with other projects, but Proud to be African Clothing is back, to try
and see ourselves to the end of the year.

Although we missed a fascinating summer of events and happenings flexing, we’ll enter Autumn with our usual groove and as the weather starts to cool keep warm with your Proud to be African hoodys.

Monday 25th August

At 6.00pm is the Iyanya and Triple MG Concert at the O2 Brixton Academy, 211 Stockwell Road, Brixton, SW9 9SL. Performing with his full crew TripleMG, this is the London leg of this highly anticipated tour. Tickets start from £15.00 from here.

At 6.30pm is Poetry Meets Art 11 at Passing Clouds, 1 Richmond Road, Dalston, E8 4AA featuring Sam Berkson aka Angry Sam, Cezanne Poetess, Mizan the Poet, Shareefa Energy and Samantha Williams. Profits from the event goes to the Panzi Hospital in Eastern Congo. £5.00 before 9.00pm, £7.00 thereafter.

Tuesday 26th August

From 1.30pm to 3.00pm the Black Cultural Archives presents Family Fun-Exhibition Explorers at Black Cultural Archives, 1 Windrush Square, Brixton, SW2 1EF. This family event for children aged 4-12, turns them into young exploders gathering clues and exploring the stories of remarkable black women throughout history, and creating s masterpiece by the end of the day. Tickets start from £2.00 from here

From 6.30pm to 9.3pm Caban Capital presents Investing South African Entrepreneurs at EMW, 1st Floor, 90 Chancery Lane, WC2A 1EU. This event is for people interested in investing in South African and will feature presentations by Ben Botes (Caban Capital Plc) on ‘The role of incubator in accelerating entrepreneurship in South Africa’. Dave Romero (Caban Capital Plc), ‘Investing in South African Entrepreneurs with Caban Capital Plc’. Tickets are £10.00 from here

At 6.30pm Rays Jazz presents Ayetoro at The Auditorium, Foyles Bookshop, 107 Charing Cross Road, WC2H 0DT. The band led by pianist Funsho Ogundipe will perform their cutting edge afrobeat and free jazz sound from their latest album Asoju Oba/ Esoterica Galactia. This is a FREE event.

At 7.00pm Magenta Dating presents Black Singles Social Event at The Hippodrome Casino, Cranbourn Street, Leicester Square, WC2H 7JH. This event is for professional black singles to mix, mingle and network. The event will be fully hosted with ice breakers. Tickets are £5.00 from here. 

Friday 29th August

At 7.00pm the Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra will be performing at the Jazz Café, 5 Parkway, Camden Town, NW1 7PG. To celebrate his upcoming album the full afrobeat orchestra will be on stage supported by the Wah Wah 45 DJs. Tickets start from £17.00 from here. 
 
Saturday 30th August

At 7.00pm Strings on Fire presents Jally Kebba & Manding Sabu, Abdul Tee-Jay & Rokoto and John Blood & the Highlys at Passing Clouds. This night of West African music will be hosted by Griot and kora master Jally Kebba Susso, with Abdul Tee-Jay and Rokkoto from Sierra Leone playing soukous and Sierra Leone street music and John Blood and the Highlys playing Roots/ Reggae. DJs Volta 45 and Djolof Roots Sound will be on the decks. FREE before 9.00pm, £5.00 before 10.00pm and £10.00 thereafter.

Sunday 31st August


At 6.30pm the London Ghana SDA Church presents Gospel Jazz Café at London Ghana Seven Day Adventist Church, 50 Chadwin Road, Plaistow, E13 8NF. This night of poetry, music, games and food will entertain and relax you and its FREE! RSVP here.
